I would definitely use TeacherTube in my classroom over YouTube or Google Videos. You can also search by grade level or subject area which makes this site very convenient! This would be great to help get parents involved as well. You can also join groups, classrooms, and collections. You can access documents, audio clips, and even pictures.

TeacherTube is great because not only are the videos educational and appropriate, but there is so much more than videos on this site. You wouldn't have to worry about the appropriateness of the videos because it was designed especially for teachers to use in classroom settings. It's basically a YouTube type site specifically for teachers. I believe TeacherTube is a wonderful idea! I definitely see the value in it. This could definitely cause problems in your lesson. Also, in most school systems, websites such as these are banned, and the teacher may not be able to get onto the site at school at all.

This is also the concern with Google Videos. This could cause many problems for the teacher. If this popped up while the teacher was giving a lesson, students may see it. For instance, a teacher may search for a school related video on YouTube, but an inappropriate video may appear in the related videos section of the site. The main concern I have with choosing a video site is the appropriateness of the site. Although there are many advantages to using videos in your classroom, there are many things you must consider when choosing a video or a video site. Videos can also help to keep students engaged in the lesson. Visual learners, especially, learn well through the use of videos. For instance, showing videos can help clarify a concept to students. There are many advantages to showing videos in your classroom. Some of the slides have a lot of information on them, and I feel that this much information at a time might overwhelm a class of third graders.Īgain, below is a link to the lesson on Smart Notebook: I also would have put less information on each slide. I believe this would have done a better job at keeping the students engaged in the lesson. I would have tried to implement more interactivity throughout the lesson rather than one interactive quiz at the end of the lesson. This takes me to what I would change about the lesson. However, this is the only interactive portion of the lesson, and I would have liked to get the students more involved. There is a "quiz" at the end of the lesson where students must label the different parts of the rock cycle. It's set up like a Power Point so I am very familiar with the format.Īlthough the lesson is very informative and easy to use, it lacks in it's interactivity.

This particular lesson is free, so I would be able to download it on any computer I needed. I am very pleased with the lesson I found, not only because it has accurate information and connects to my outcomes, but it is also very easy to use. My learning outcomes are "By the end of the lesson, students should be able to tell about, in writing, the difference between rocks and minerals and give at least three examples of each with 90% accuracy." and "By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to create a diagram of the rock cycle, and be able to identify the three different types of rock with 80% accuracy." This lesson from Smart Notebook covers the latter of the two outcomes very well. Not only was the information in this lesson accurate, the information also connected to one of my learning outcomes. To my knowledge, all of the information in this lesson is accurate. There is a definition of each type of rock, examples of each type of rock, and even a diagram of the rock cycle. This particular lesson from Smart Notebook seems to have very accurate information. The following link will take you to the lesson from Smart Notebook: Rocks Lesson Since I am doing a lesson on rocks and minerals, I pulled a lesson on rocks from Smart Notebook to compare with the rock portion of my lesson.
